"Mama Made The Difference: Post 4

5 Things I Understand:
-His mother tried to live close to the Lord, and live in His image.
-She tried to teach her son humiliation to God, so that they could live eternally.
-She died while Jakes was egtting his life together.
-Jakes worked ahrd to be able to live up to the standards of his mother and the rest of his family.
-Living a good straight life is very important to his family.

4 Questions:
-Did he see it as a good thing when his mother died? (That she was now in Heaven.)
-What was the biggest factor that made him turn his life around?
-What did ROTC teach him in the long-run?
-What kind of effect did Naomi and Ruth have on T.D. Jakes's life?

3 Words:
-Insidious (Jakes 140): intended to entrap or beguile.
-Poignantly (Jakes 142): keenly distressing to the feelings.
-Orator (Jakes 157): an eloquent and skilled public speaker.

2 Literary Devices:
-Personification: "These emotion, when left to run their course, lead to jealousy" (Jakes 137).
-Simile: "With her family all around her, Mama was in excellent spirits. It was like joy-like a holy electricity-ricocheting around the room" (Jakes 166).

1 Sentence Summary: Jakes mother has died, and now he has to live on his own, to try to make a good name for his family.
